Success

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children
To earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy
 child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived;
This is to have succeeded.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

I would pick more daisies
Written by an 85 year old who had just learned he was going to die.

“If I had my life to live over again,
I would try to make more mistakes next time…
I’d try not to be so damned perfect;
I’d relax more, I’d limber up,
I’d be sillier than I’ve been on this trip;
In fact, I know of very few things I’d take quite so seriously;
I’d be crazier … and I’d certainly be less-hygienic;
I’d take more chances … I’d take more trips …
I’d climb more mountains … I’d swim more rivers …
And I’d watch more sunsets;
I’d burn more gasoline,
I’d eat more ice cream – and fewer beans;
I’d have more actual troubles and fewer imaginary ones,

You see, I was one of those people who lived prophylactically and sensibly,
hour after hour and day after day;
Oh, that doesn't mean I didn't have my moments,
But if I had to do it all over, I'd have more of those moments,
In fact I'd try to have nothing but wonderful moments, one after another.

I was one of those
 people who never went anywhere without a thermometer,
a hot water bottle, a gargle, a raincoat and a parachute;
If I had it to do all over again, I’d travel lighter next time.

If I had my life to live all over again, I'd start barefoot earlier in the Spring,
and I’d stay that way later in the fall;
I’d play hooky a lot more;
I’d ride more merry-go-rounds, I’d pick more flowers,
I’d hug more children,
I’d tell more people that I loved them,

I’d pray with an open and thankful heart.
If I had my life to live over again;
But, you see, I don't
."

If I have seen farther than others, it is because I stood on
the shoulders of giants.
          - Isaac Newton

It does not require many words to speak the truth.
          - Chief Joseph

There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth.
Not going all the way, and not starting.
          - Buddha

The Creator gathered all of creation and said, 'I want to
hide something from the humans until they are ready for it.
It is the realization that they create their own reality.'
The eagle said, 'Give it to me, I will take it to the moon.'
The Creator said, 'No one day they will go there and find it.'
The salmon said, 'I will hide it on the bottom of the ocean.'
'No, they will go there too.'  The buffalo said, 'I will bury
it on the great plains.'  The Creator said, 'They will cut
into the skin of the earth and find it.'  Then Grandmother
Mole, who lives in the breast of Mother Earth, and who has no
physical eyes but sees with spiritual eyes, said: 'Put it
inside them.'  And the Creator said, 'It is done.'
          - Sioux Legend

An eye for an eye would leave the whole world blind.
          - Gandhi

Your religious calling was written on plates of stone
by the flaming  finger of an angry God.   Our religion
was established by the traditions of our ancestors,
the dreams of our elders that are given to them in the
silent hours of night by the Great Spirit.
          - Chief White Cloud

Not all who wander are lost.
          - JRR Tolkien

"I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can rest only for a moment, for with freedom come responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not yet ended."
        - Nelson Mandela
